About the school

North Carolina State University was founded in 1887 as a land-grant college named North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. The College of Sciences was formed to connect people and Physical, Chemical, Biological, Statistical, Mathematical, and Earth-System Sciences programmes. The college has some of the brightest minds that come together to tackle common problems.

The College of Science is at the forefront of several growing areas, such as - Bioinformatics, Environmental Health Sciences, Big Data, Geospatial Analytics and Precision Medicines. Life at College of Sciences

Every student at NC State University flourishes and grows within the vibrant and friendly campus community. There are lots of extracurricular activities on campus, which is considered a second home by many students. When a student chooses to live on campus, they are never far from the fun activities.

There are several dining options offering delicious and healthy food throughout the day, from late-night snack runs to coffee-fueled study sessions.

The school has two residence buildings with more than 15 halls in it. The conventional hall-style building has communal bathrooms used by all of the floor's occupants. Coed halls are split into gender-based groups. Students who value privacy, can opt for suite-style buildings. Suites may accommodate eight to twelve students and are gender-specific. The University Towers double room suite offers more privacy with two rooms sharing a bathroom and a sink in each room.

Students who want to live off campus can opt for the Centre for Marine Sciences and Technology, conveniently located 0.5 miles from these furnished two-bedroom residence apartments. It has furnished apartments with a lounge chair, modern sofa, four chairs, dinette table, refrigerator, oven and stove. It can accommodate four students in the two-bedroom apartments with built-in wardrobes, dressers, and extra-long twin beds.

In addition, the college has several student clubs and organisations where the students can participate actively and contribute toward inclusivity, diversity, and equity. Student clubs organise events according to the college's regulations for all audiences. Each year, the college hosts the Celebrating Diversity in STEM Dinner. The event includes students with science leaders from diverse backgrounds among the university's faculty. Other events include the Back-to-School Cookout, the Society for Multicultural Scientists Retreat, the GLBTQ+ in STEM programme, and more.
