About the school

The SUNY Upstate Medical University's College of Graduate Studies is one of the 140 renowned colleges in the United States of America that is a part of the academic medical centre. It fosters an environment that nurtures and supports high standards of academic excellence. The student-faculty ratio in this college is really impressive. For every student enrolling in the master's programme, there is one faculty, maintaining the balance in a one-to-one ratio. This helps the professors to better communicate and understand the students while mentoring them throughout their academic journey in college.

The college encourages students to make the best career choices right from the beginning of their academic journey. The students get access to three lab rotations in the first year before they decide on the faculty research advisor and a lab they wish to work further with. The college aims to produce students who transform themselves from consumers of information to the producers of valuable knowledge that not only benefits the University but the society as a whole.

Where is the school located?

Syracuse is a beautiful city located in Onondaga County in New York. It is said to be the economic and educational epicentre of Central New York, making it the perfect choice for students who wish to flourish in their respective fields.

Life at College of Graduate Studies

Even though the College of Graduate Studies is one of the most prestigious institutions that offers academic excellence, student life is far more than just studies. The college believes that to become a successful professional, one must be a part of clubs and organisations. Participation helps build essential skills that help develop the right attitude and perspective.

The Campus Activities Governing Board, also known as the CAGB, looks after all the events happening on campus– social or recreational. Even the comedy shows, tickets for sports and various cultural events happening in the Syracuse area are supervised by this body. Two of the most popular events hosted by this organisation are the Welcome Fest and the Arctic Blast.

Students are also encouraged to be a part of various trips. The official website of the college shares updates about upcoming trips and the itinerary. Some previously conducted trips were the NYC day trip, the Ithaca Food Tour, and more. Professionals guide all these trips to give a better experience and understanding of the place. Although the trips have limited seats, one can keep an eye out for an update and book as soon as the notification comes out to never miss out on an adventure. However, every participant must go through all the travel policies carefully before booking any seat on the trip.

Additional benefits of studying at College of Graduate Studies

The College of Graduate Studies provides the students with maximum opportunity to select the best specialisation and choose their topic and mentor for their dissertation. The students pursuing a master's degree need to submit an elaborate dissertation research. The college offers the students to take advanced courses in the spring semester of their first year before deciding on their research topic. The students begin their dissertation work at the start of the second year.

The College believes the right mentorship is vital to producing a successful researcher. To support that, the college provides the students with a close-knit community that offers individualised support and advice as and when needed.
